I have been thinking a lot about my life and where I started. It is a fact I am a true "Hillbilly". Angel Holler in southern Ohio in a small area called Franklin Furnace is where I am so proud to tell you my life began in a 12×48 mobile home beside a beautiful little creek, and directly in front of a gorgeous tree covered hill that was once travelled by many a native american and Appalachian hillbilly. To some it may have appeared to be a meager existence but to me I thought it was heaven!!
We had a pot-bellied stove that we used to heat with in the winter and it was great for them cold Ohio winter nights.
Grandpa and Grandma Hacker lived just across the tobacco field from us so I could go to see them whenever I wanted. I remember so many great lunches and suppers at their house. They also had a basement so whenever bad weather blowed in Grandma would call and tell us to get to their house so we could all go to the basement to be safe in case a tornado came. Their basement was awesome it had couches and chairs and a T.V. so it was not a bad thing if we had to go to Grandmas house anytime.
One thing about growing up Appalachian was when the church doors were open we were there. Sunday morning service, sunday night service, and wednesday night bible study. Pine Creek Freewill Baptist was a wonderful place of worship. Every year we performed the Nativity story for Christmas and I always remember Brother Mootz narrating it and thinking it was perfect like something on T.V.
My foundation was laid rock solid there in Angel Holler and I am so grateful for such a GODLY beginning. I will pick up here on the next blog. GOD bless you all, love ya!!
